Happy birthday Ken! / All good things must come to an end

First of all, and most importantly, My brother stopped being a teenager on June 10th. Happy 20th birthday Kenny of the jay bird, jay bird, jay bird, Kenny of the jay bird type! (Don’t worry, he’ll know what that means) I know siblings are supposed to not like each other, and constantly battle, but I think my brother is one of the coolest people I know. He’s influenced me and kept me going in ways I don’t think even he knows. One of the best parts of coming back to the states will be hanging out with my red-headed bro. Again, Happy B-day bro!

In other news, I arrived back on USS Kitty Hawk last night. I wish I could say it’s good to be back, but the best part about being back is playing my guitar again and having my own desk. I also drew the lucky straw and had duty the first day back. However, if asked to do it all over again I’d gladly pick a few days in Yokosuka (in my own bed) over a few days in Guam. Visiting home in the middle of a deployment is something that is worth its weight in gold.

I’m already overwhelmed with the amount of work my shop is going to be doing in the next couple months, but I think it’s going to help the deployment go by quickly. Sometimes being busy is a blessing.

I’m fighting the temptation to just give up with the number of months I have left in the Navy nearing enough to count on one hand. I’ve had way too many people leave me less than prepared because of their apathy. I don’t want to be one of them.

I really enjoy talking to my parents via email or on the phone about how things are going to be when I’m back. We’re already making room arrangments and talking about road trips. Seems like just yesterday I was talking to my dad about coming here. 2007 is going super quick!

  1. Guess it’s a good thing that you guys are getting older, but DO YOU HAVE TO DRAG US WITH YOU? :>)

Glad you got a little R&R in Yoko/Opamma & that things are at least “predicatable” back on the Hawk.

It never ocurred to us that you’d just go “thru the motions” and not give your last few months the same 110% you’ve put in up to now so I can’t imagine apathy really setting in. You may be a lot of things (per your “8″ below) but apathetic certainlyl isn’t one of ‘em! :>)

We’re counting the days till you get back but they’ve been going by so quickly, it might make more sense to count weeks… or months… or, I dont’ know, dog years? Yeah, that’s the ticket, we’ll look forward to seeing you in 1/14th of a dog-year!!!!!!!

    The “other” D.O.D.

  2. 1. yip, the thot of leaving gives many choices–do you work less or more. depends on how you want to be remembered.
    2. numbering the months: did it in Nam [counted the last 100 days], and doing it now with the USPO–16 months. every day is a new number.
